Early Christmas Presents
Kudos to both The Blood-Horse and competitor Thoroughbred Times for continuing to issue their stallion directories, the Stallion Register and the Stallion Directory, respectively, in print format to their subscribers. Both arrive at about the same time and both are treated by me as early Christmas presents. While some may question the wisdom of a printed directory that must be kept up to date constantly online, it remains a simple pleasure to thumb through these massive volumes. I work in technology, and I obviously use technology while posting this blog. However, my first profession of being a librarian obviously implies a certain love of books as well. You miss the serendipity of stumbling across a previously unknown sire while thumbing through these books. Congratulations to both publishers for keeping up this tradition, and let's hope the tradition continues, despite the financial pressures that are likely present to do otherwise.

i pencil whip the stallion register to death, and since i just bought a lovely mare on a very good deal, i am especially enthusiastic at now yellow highlighting good nicks lol. i find that stallion owners dont want to give a mare that has been crossed incorrectly for a few years to produce less than stellar performers on the track a second chance. this ticks me off. like even priceless gem or la troienne could throw a runner every foal or when bred to duds. Mismatched breedings are a waste of a horses life and potential. my mare is by slew o gold and out of a irish mare, icing. she has brothers that are stakes winners in europe and hunting up the right mate here in usa for a price i can afford that impresses me, with his physical potential AND a pedigree with reasonable price has been difficult. i looked at noble causeway today and he is ok but not fulfilling my ideal of what this mare needs. I was impressed with seeking the dia and also almost can dream of the physical perfection of seeking the best, not to mention both have great pedigrees. what do you think? i am enjoying the musings as you can well imagine
